one on one sessionsclasses and workshops

One-on-Ones

From past class evaluations, we have found that flexibility works best for our student participants and sometimes classes are not available when you want to take them. If this is the case, One-on-Ones are for you! It gives you a chance to work independently with one of our skilled artist-printmakers to learn intaglio, relief, screenprinting, letterpress, digital or alternative techniques.

Please contact info@zygotepress.org for a roster of artist-print specialists and we will connect you. We charge $35 per hour-($10 for Zygote and $25 for teachers)-some classes take just a few hours –some take a little longer. This is a great way to learn as you go so you can begin utilizing our Open Studio sessions or commence renting a locker or studio.

Private one-on-one classes
$25 per hour for teacher + $10 per hour for Zygote

NON-TOXIC!! Saline Sulfate Etching – with Kate Snow

Do you wish you could etch plates without much ventilation and all the hazards of nitric acid? Check out this 2-day immersion workshop where we will explore the possibilities of etching zinc with the much less toxic saline sulfate solution. It's easy to mix and dispose of, does not rust equipment or put off noxious fumes, and is even able to etch all of the silvery metals in the same bath. We will prep and ground zinc plates, etch basic line work and if there is time, do a simple aquatint. Although we will still be using traditional oil-based materials and solvents, there will also be a demo of non-toxic grounds and water-soluble inks that clean up with citrus-based ‘solvents', soap and water. That way you will learn many possibilities for non-toxic printing. Just bring an image for a 6”x8” zinc plate and we will provide all the materials. You may also bring an old plate to print with our new inks, but you may have to purchase paper (available at Zygote Press). Two Consecutive Saturdays March 15th + 22nd [10am-4pm] $160.
